The ACC Asia Cup features international men's One Day International cricket competition. It was founded in 1983; when the Asian Cricket Council was established with an objective to propagate and promote goodwill among the Asian countries. At the time of initiation of this championship, it was planned to hold it every two years. In 1984, the opening tournament was hosted in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates where the offices of the Council were situated, till 1995. As per the approval of The International Cricket Council, all games contested in the Asia Cup have official status of One Day International.
India has the reputation of winning the tournament for highest number of times. India partook in all the editions of the cup, except 1986 when India withdrew due to uncomfortable cricketing relations with Sri Lanka and 1993 as the championship was cancelled in view of strained political relations between India and Pakistan. In accordance with ruling of the ACC, the tournament has been staged once in every two years from 2008 onwards.
The inaugural Asia Cup in 1984 featured a round-robin tournament between India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The first match was played by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the then new ICC member. India was the winner of this inaugural edition, with two victories.
Sri Lanka staged the second edition of Asia Cup Cricket in 1986. Sri Lanka, thus, hosted its first multi-national cricket tournament. India had abstained from participating in the tournament due to stressed cricketing relations with Sri Lanka following a controversial series during the previous year, there. Bangladesh had come into the tournament for the first time. Sri Lanka defeating Pakistan in the finals became the champion of the cup.
The third Asia Cricket Cup was held in Bangladesh, in 1988, and turned out to be the first multi-national cricket tournament hosted there. India overpowered Sri Lanka by six wickets, in the final, and won their second Asia Cup.
India staged in 1990-90 the fourth edition of the Asia Cricket Cup. Owing to uncomfortable political relations with India, Pakistan had opted out of the tournament. India retained the Cup winning over Sri Lanka in the final.
The tournament could not take place in 1993 because of the unhealthy political relations shared by India and Pakistan.
The fifth edition staged in 1995, carried back the tournament to Sharjah after a lapse of 11 years. India and Sri Lanka entered the final on the basis of better run rate over Pakistan as all three teams had accumulated equal points at the conclusion of the preliminary round. India once again defeated Sri Lanka in the final for the third time in a row in the Asia Cup, to surface as winners.
In 1997 Sri Lanka organised the sixth edition and defeated India in the final by eight wickets to win its second Asia Cup and impede India's third victory in a row.
The seventh edition of the Asia Cup was hosted by Bangladesh in 2000 and happened to be its second. The final was played by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while India had failed to qualify for the first time as it had won only one match against Bangladesh. In the final, Pakistan won over Sri Lanka and lifted the Asia Cup for the first time.
The eighth edition occurred in Sri Lanka, in 2004 after a lapse of four years from the seventh edition of the championship. This tournament had undergone certain modifications as regards its format in this edition. The other Asian countries, UAE and Hong Kong, were also integrated for the first time. The competition was divided into three stages, i.e. the group stage, the round robin Super Four and the final. The group stage was further split into two groups of three teams, requiring every team to play every other team once. The top ranked two teams from each group qualified for the Super Four stage where they competed with each other once again. The best performing two teams in the Super Four stage then proceeded to the final. Hosts Sri Lanka, India and UAE were placed in Group A. The defending champion Pakistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong were positioned in Group B.
Sri Lank, Pakistan, UAE and Hong Kong were packed off in the group stage. Bangladesh, though reached the second stage in a major tournament for the first time, was eliminated in the Super Four. India and Sri Lanka being the two best teams in the Super Four stage contested the final. Sri Lanka won against India by 25 runs in the Final to capture the Asia Cup.
Pakistan staged the ninth edition of the Asia Cup. The 2004 tournament format was sustained in this edition also. The tournament got under way on June 24 2008 and concluded on July 6 2008. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh top ranked in Group A, qualified for the second phase. In Group B, India and Pakistan being top teams entered the Super Four. Sri Lanka and India topped the Super Four stage and played the final. Sri Lanka defeated India in the final to equal India’s record of four Asia Cup trophies.
The tenth edition of Asia Cup was hosted by Sri Lanka, for the fourth time, from June 15 to June 24 2010. This edition involved only the four Test playing Asian nations, and seven matches (including final) were played totally. Sri Lanka and India were the highest placed teams of the group stages and contested the final. India defeated Sri Lanka comfortably to become Asia Cup champions for a record fifth time, though the first time in 15 years.
The eleventh edition of Asia Cup was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from March 11 to March 22 2012. Pakistan and Bangladesh made it to the final. Bangladesh defeated India and Sri Lanka to reach the final for the first time in the history of the tournament. Pakistan beat Bangladesh marginally by two runs in the gripping final over.

Balyakalasakhi Movie Review - Do Not Miss This!

Rating:

Pramod Payyannur's Balyakalasakhi, the cinematic adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's well known novel of the same name, with Mammootty and Isha Talwar in the lead is a near excellent adaptation of the novel backed with some wonderful performances.
Story
Balyakalasakhi is a pure love story revolving around Majeed (Mammootty) and Suhra (Isha Talwar) which begins from their childhood. The movie begins with Majeed searching a job in Kolkata. He loses his money and bag on the way, but is helped by Selvi (Seema Biswas) , who introduces him to Ameen Sahib (Sasikumar). Ameen Sahib gives Majeed a job in his press. Majeed meets Shabnam (Thanusree Ghosh) , daughter of Ameen Sahib and Praful (Preim Sheikh), a rebel and a writer. Rest of the story deals with the flashback of the love story between Majeed and Suhra and how and where life takes them.
Balyakalasakhi Movie Review
Performances
Mammootty, in his double role of Majeed and his father is the pick among many. He has enacted the character of Majeed to near perfection. Isha Talwar as Suhra has improved much from her earlier films and has come out good. Rest of the cast including Seema Biswas, Sasikumar, Thanusree Ghosh, Meena (Majeed's mother), Preim Sheikh, Sunil Sukhada (Avaraan), Kavitha Nair (Suhra's mom), Mamukkoya (Narayana Pilla) have done full justice to their roles. Also special mention goes to Parambrata Chatterjee and other young and child artists.
Technical Aspects
Cinematography by Hari Nair is near flawless. He has captured the scenic beauty of the village and the streets of Kolkata with much brilliance.
Music by the late legend Raghavan Master and Shahabaz Aman is a treat for music lovers. All songs, especially Thamarapponkavanathil and Kalam Parakkanu are sure to live long in the mind of music lovers.
For the cinematic version, Pramod Payyannur have done a lot of compromise. The first half which leaves us spellbound doesn't have that charm in the second half. Though the movie was said to be for 120 minutes, it has further been cut short. Editing also seems bit faltered as many sequences have been unexpectedly cut short. Still, Pramod Payyannur can be proud of making such a good movie of such a heart warming love story written by a legend.

jai ho salman khan
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is back with his action-packed avatar in his brother Sohail Khan’s directorial venture ‘Jai Ho’. The wait for all Salman Khan fans, who had been eagerly awaiting the film’s release, is over. With just two days left for the release of ‘Jai Ho ‘, we give you five reasons why you should and must watch the Salman Khan film.
1. The last time you saw Salman Khan on silver screen was in ‘Dabangg 2′, that released almost 2 years ago in 2012 . Last year, Bollywood’s other two Khans – Aamir and Shah Rukh – made their magic work on Box Office with smash hits ‘Dhoom: 3′ and ‘Chennai Express’ respectively. And now it’s superstar Salman Khan’s turn to claim his position at Box Office. ‘Jai Ho’ being the second big release of 2014 and looking at ‘Dedh Ishqiya’s BO results, it is safe to assume that Salman’s film will cash in big at the counters.
2. ‘Aam Aadmi’ is the flavour of the season. With Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party forming the government in the nation’s capital, no one now underestimates the power of common man. Though Salman Khan said on a television show recently that ‘Jai Ho’ is a tale of revenge, the resonances of eulogising the common man cannot be ignored. The patriotic spirit may also be high seeing that ‘Jai Ho’ releases two days before the Republic Day.
3. Versatile actress Tabu is also returning to the silver screen after Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi (2012). Tabu, who plays Salman Khan’s elder sister in the film, is looking gorgeous in the promos of the film.
4. Even Aamir Khan wants to watch ‘Jai Ho’! Mr. Perfectionist, who has stayed away from masala entertainment genre, is also eagerly waiting for the film. The actor, who didn’t promote his own release ‘Dhoom: 3′, is leaving no stone unturned to create a buzz around the Salman Khan starrer. Aamir has been frequently tweeting about the movie and has asked Salman for a screening befor the release. Aamir tweeted: “…waiting to watch your film Salman! release se pehle dikhade mere bhai… JAI HO!!” He has even begun his own countdown for the movie.
5. Salman Khan, who is known to have introduced talented actresses like Sonkashi Sinha and Katrina Kaif to Bollywood, is all set to bring another actress to the fore front – Daisy Shah. Even During the promotions Daisy has been very vocal about her respect for the ‘Dabangg’ Khan.

Review
Story
Satya (Allu Arjun) loves Deepthi (Kajal Agarwal). A local gangster wants her and kills both of them in the process. Satya goes into coma and is treated by a doctor (Jayasudha). As Satya’s body is burnt partly, the doctor performs a surgery and replaces his body with a new look (Ram Charan). Satya with new look and identity finds it easy to take the revenge on the people who is responsible for the death of his lover. Just about when he finishes act of vengeance, he comes to know about a bigger purpose in his life. The rest of the story is all about how he achieved the goal.
Artists Performance
Actors: Ram Charan is excellent in a role that carries emotions of two souls. His dialogue delivery, screen presence and dances are superb. Allu Arjun is very good in a pivotal role. Shruti Hassan has a bubbly character and did well. Amy Jackson has a role in the first half. Kajal Agarwal did a small yet important role. Sai Kumar is superb as the main villain. His looks, solid body language and captivating voice helped to elevate the villain role. Kota Srinivasa Rao though has a limited role provides entertainment with Nellore dialect. He is so good that when says ‘yow, podisemundu choosukovakharla’ while dying people were laughing amidst climax. Jayasudha gets a vital role in this film and she is adorable and brings balance to the film with her work. Shashank is very good and it’s nice to see him different characters. The characterization of Brahmanandam’s role should have been entertaining. LB Sriram gets a good role of a suppressed elderman and he perfectly essays it.
Technical departments
Story - screenplay - direction: The story provided by Vamsi paidipalli and Vakkantham Vamsi is intriguing it helps the screenplay. It’s a revenge story with an unusual angle. Director Vamsi Paidipally has been the director who has good grip on action orientation (Munna) and family emotions (Brindavanam). He has used these two strengths with a commercial screenplay to deliver Yevadu. Jayasudha’s thread in this film is a big plus for family crowds. The emotions of all basti episodes will attract masses. I really liked the way director gave credit to his team with end title card with ‘a film by Vamsi paidipalli and team’.
Other departments: Songs by Devi Sri Prasad are good. Background music is very good. The background music scored for Basti episodes has helped in getting emotions across very well. Cinematography by Ram Prasad is a plus. Dialogues by Abburi Ravi are alright. Editing is fine. Action episodes composed by Peter Hein and Selvam cater well to the masses. Dil Raju’s decision to release Yevadu for pongal seems be working well as this film has all the ingredients that are required for a commercial hit.
Analysis
Movie starts off in an interesting mode. First half is alright. Second half has pretty good emotional elements with the Jayasudha (family emotions) and Sai Kumar (mass emotions). The plus points of film are Ram Charan’s performance, commercial screenplay that has an inherent factor that arouses curiosity and director’s ability to handle mass and family emotions. On the flip side, the first half of the film has no conflict point as hero continues to kill the targets with zero opposition and there is lot of violence in the movie. On a whole, Yevadu is a film that has all ingredients to work at Box Office this Sankranthi!.
